Sarasota is a great place to head out after dark and look for some fun and interesting things to do. One of the things to do in Sarasota at night is take in the cool dining spots, excellent views of the sunset, and, if you’re up for it, dancing the night away at a drum circle on the beach. Nowhere in the world offers all of this in one city. Welcome to Sarasota, let’s get started.
Art Hub
Whatever you are looking to do at night, the arts are one thing people love to explore. Why not try a fancy night out at Sarasota Opera or look at Asolo Repertory Theater? The Sarasota Opera House is in a theater at 61 North Pineapple Avenue. The building opened in 1926 with a three-story entrance and eight shops on the main level. A night out at the opera is always a treat. Asolo Repertory offers cultural shows with a diverse focus on giving creative voice to award-winning directors and shows.
Ringling Museum
One of the most popular spots to check out any time of day, but especially at night, is the Ringling Museum’s Art After 5. This weekly event held on Thursdays offers special collections and permanent displays open to the public between 5 and 8 p.m. Not just about live shows, Sarasota also offers an after-dark art walk outside of the Ringling Museum. Head downtown the first Friday of each month for the Palm Avenue First Friday Walk starting at 6 p.m.
Beach Bongos
Of course, no visit to Sarasota is complete without a trip to the Siesta Key Drum Circle. This gathering features performing musicians playing on the beach every Sunday after sunset. Everyone is welcome to join in the fun. Most music continues after dark, ending when the fire dies down. Linger awhile after it ends for a walk on the beach or a meander home if staying nearby. Don’t miss out on this fun family activity.
Ranch Nite Wednesdays
One of the best family-friendly venues for nighttime fun, Ranch Nite offers live music, food trucks, and fun. Have an adult beverage while the kids nibble on treats and play cornhole. Every Wednesday from 6 to 9 pm at Waterside Place, Lakewood Ranch.
Popstroke
No, this is not the name of a medical event that will have you checking out Sarasota’s finest medical facilities in the middle of the night. Popstroke just opened in 2022 and is a great late-night activity spot for adults. Check out this mini golf course designed by Tiger Woods, with outdoor beverages flowing and a lively bar on two stories. Come for the unique experience but stay and play the night away with friends til you drop.
Bar Hopping
Sarasota has some of the best bars in Florida. Check out Cask & Ale for high-end cocktails in a fun, trendy atmosphere. Drink and enjoy the evening until the wee hours of the morning. For a younger crowd, check out this fun, upbeat space in Sarasota called Brewsters, serving up carnitas and other nibbles and drinks until 2 am.
Nightlife
Hit some nightclubs for the house, hip hop, rock, and other music if that’s your scene. Perspective Rooftop Bar is a trendy poolside bar on the 8th floor that is lit up Fridays and Saturdays with a DJ from 9 pm to 1 am. Gator Club is popular with floors playing hip hop and reggae tunes to tap your feet all night.
Sea at Night
Explore the waters in a glass bottom LED illuminated kayak by night. Paddle the mangroves and see the waters in a different light in Sarasota Bay for a unique and fun experience. Tours at 8 pm for sunset, and 9:30 pm for late evening paddles.
