Siesta Key is known as ‘Little Sarasota Key, a barrier island between Sarasota and the Gulf of Mexico. Families and travelers come from worldwide to explore the beaches, dine, drink, shop, and relax on its shores. One of the things about a slower pace of life is enjoying fun and exciting experiences like the Siesta Key drum circle. Every Sunday, an hour before sunset, revelers come to watch as others come to participate in a musical and fantastical experience of drums, dancing, and freedom from life for a moment. This free event, open to the public, lets everyone experience something new each time they come. Some fun facts about the drum circle:

  • Everyone is welcome to join
  • It is one of several drum circles but has been going on for 20 years
  • Siesta Key was voted number 1 beach in 2020
  • Drum circle started as a potlatch ceremony during the autumn equinox of 1996 and became a full drum circle every full moon, with more people eventually joining
  • Local groups including Ringling School of the Arts, local churches, and members of Native Descended Nation supported the drum circle and attended

  • Free parking nearby with the drum circle taking place south of main Siesta Beach pavilion between lifeguard stands three and four.
  • Street performers, locals, families, and more come for the drum circle. It is a must-see and must-do event when visiting the area with a common goal of making and celebrating music and joy.
