Best Thing to Do in Sarasota on a Rainy Day

A rainy day in Sarasota can feel like a day lost on the beach. Rain doesn’t come as often as in other cities but when it does, it is an opportunity to check out some great places around the area that are perfect for exploring during inclement weather. Check out the best things to do in Sarasota on a rainy day and why they will be fun.

Ringling Museum

Once owned by circus founder John Ringling and family, this museum can take a day or more to explore fully. Stop by the art gallery and revel in its historic pieces along with the many rooms in residence at Ca’d’Zan. The rose gardens are still beautiful to see from either inside or outside. Check out the views from inside the property and enjoy all it has to offer.

Mote Marine Aquarium and Laboratory

Marine life is a huge aspect of living in and visiting Sarasota. From working labs and interactive exhibits, the Mote Marine Aquarium and laboratory is one-of-a-kind. Sharks, manatees, and sea turtles are some of the 100 species of marine life that can be found here. The Shark Zone offers beautiful views of Sarasota’s sharks with narrated sessions in the habitat. Understand how the museum works and how they keep animals healthy and practice conservation. Children and adults will enjoy the exhibits across the aquarium.

Sarasota offers healthy food options like fresh seafood and Sharky’s Pier, for instance, has great views and food. Locally grown cuisine is on the menu at so many places it is great for enjoying a night out.

Sarasota Classic Car Museum

Zip and zoom around the classic car museum, the second oldest running antique car museum in the nation. Check out John Lennon’s 1965 Mercedes or John and Mable Ringling’s Rolls Royce collection. All these autos are on display for everyone young and old to enjoy. The gift shop offers plenty of memorabilia to take home.

Night Out at the Theater

Whether you love movies or live theater, there is something for everyone on a rainy day in Sarasota. Look into Asolo Repertory Theater which states up to 15 performances each season. The Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall has a purple exterior but a divine selection of music, dance, comedy, and more. The theater often stages matinee performances of popular shows.
